Please Read the End User License Agreement towards the end of this Read Me.
STEP 1:
Drag the "Journey to the Planets" icon from the "Planets" CD-ROM to your local
hard drive or desktop. Running the program from your hard drive will increase
performance.
Note: This is a point of confusion. Do not drag the icon representing the CD (the
one on the desktop called "Planets") to your drive. You probably don't have
enough space to copy the entire CD!
STEP 2:
Read the following Multicom Install Notes. Run the program by double clicking
on the "Journey to the Planets" icon.
System Requirements:
1. 256 Color Capable Macintosh
2. 13" Color Monitor or larger
3. CD ROM Drive
4. System Software 6.0.7 or higher, and QuickTime 2.0 (included on this disc)
5. 2 megabytes of available RAM, 4 preferred.
ÑMulticom Install NotesÑ
STEP 1:
Please turn off any screen savers before using JOURNEY TO THE PLANETS.
If you are running Adobe Type Manager (ATM), please turn off this
extension. A conflict can cause a problem with the font display.
Refer to your owner's manual for instructions on how to turn
them off.
Be sure that no other applications are running.
STEP 2:
If the QuickTime 2.0 extension has not yet been installed, you need
to put it into the "Extensions" folder which is located in the
"System Folder" of your hard drive.
The QuickTime 2.0 extension is located in the "Utilities" folder.
To install QuickTIme 2.0, open the "QuickTime 2.0" folder and drag the
"QuickTime" extension into your "Extensions" folder which can be
found in your "System Folder".
Close all open windows and Restart your computer.
Now your are ready to run the program.
STEP 3:
It is preferable to set the memory size for "Journey to the Planets" to at least
4 meg of system RAM if you are using 256 colors, and to 8 meg if you are using
thousands of colors. Video will look much better in thousands of colors. To set your
monitor thousands; see your owner's manual.
You can do this by selecting (one-click) "Journey to the Planets" and choosing
Get Info in the finder menu. A dialog box opens into which you set the
preferred memory to the given specifications.
This must be done to the version of "Journey to the Planets" that resides on
your hard disk or on your desktop.
You can now run the application by double-clicking on the "Journey to the
Planets" icon.
(Note: It is not necessary to restart your computer for these changes to take effect).
STEP 4:
If using virtual memory:
On Macintosh Systems with 4 or 5mb of RAM or those which do not have 4mb of
Free Memory, you may need to use Virtual Memory. This is available on all
Macintosh Computers with System 7 and a 68030 or 68040 microprocessor.
The Macintosh LC cannot use Virtual Memory since it uses the 68020 processor.
The following steps outline how to setup Virtual Memory for use with Multicom
CD titles. Virtual Memory uses a portion of your Hard Drive to simulate RAM
memory. This allows low memory machines to run applications that require
more memory.
(Note: The use of Virtual Memory will result in slower performance. Video and
sound quality will be degraded. For best performance it is recommended that
your system be upgraded so that 3.5mb to 4mb of free RAM memory be available
after the Macintosh has started. To check how much free space is available
choose "About This Macintosh..." from the Apple Menu, and note the Largest
Unused Block. This must be 3500k and for best performance be 4096k or
greater.)
Procedure:
1. Under the Apple Menu choose "Control Panels"
2. Select the Memory Control Panel by double clicking on its icon.
3. Turn on Virtual Memory
4. Set the memory size to 8 - 10mb
*(Note: If you are not able to change the memory to 8 - 10mb, trash items from
your hard drive to free up more space).
5. Close the Memory control panel and then close the Control Panels Folder
6. Your need to restart your Macintosh for the changes to take effect.
*(To restart your Mac, choose Restart from the Special Menu).
7. After your Mac has restarted choose "About this Macintosh" from the Apple
Menu. You should now see that the amount of "RAM" available to the Mac has
increased.
STEP 5:
"Journey to the Planets" does NOT need HyperCard Player or Hypercard to run.
You may however have other programs that do need HyperCard Player or
Hypercard to run properly.
If you launch a program other than "Journey to the Planets" and your screen
shows images from "Journey to the Planets" then you need HyperCard Player or
HyperCard to run your other programs properly. Call the company from which
you purchased the other program.
